An eleventh hour, late confirmation in the talent line up for Rockstock 09 now includes entertainer Peter Wright, a native son of the region where Rockstock is staged. His rock career originated in the Toowoomba / South-East Queensland area in the mid-sixties, before being signed to a major record deal and moving to a career based out of Sydney.
This appearance will be something of a renaissance for Wright who has not been onstage for ten years, having first been sidelined by personal issues, and then dealing with the illness and ultimately the loss of his beloved wife to cancer.
Peter Wright’s start in music came as a teenager when he was discovered by television-producer and songwriting notable Nat Kipner. This led to national T.V. appearances and Wright being contracted to the major record label, EMI. He enjoyed chart success with several singles and an album release, including My Prayer b/w. Big Hunk O’ Love, House Of Bamboo , Ooby Doo Di b/w. Big Glass Slippers and The Rose Has A Thorn.
The Rose was a #2 hit in 1966 and was re-issued in 2005 on the EMI compilation, Memories Are Made of This – 60 Solid Gold Hits. The Memories compilation, in a sort of deja-vu repeat performance, achieved gold record sales for those songs again, in June of 2005 . . .reaching number #2 in the A.R.I.A. charts.

Wright’s live performance career was noted for his appeal as a box office draw, both individually, and later with his vocal and harmony group,The Peter Wright Revival…which toured with outstanding popularity fifty-weeks a year for three consecutive years in the national Swinger circuit during the early seventies.
Apart from his records and what went before, Peter Wright is possibly best remembered by the “Boomer” generation in the area local and adjacent to Rockstock Helidon, for his record breaking back to back seasons at the nearby Crown Cabaret (Toowoomba) in 1978-79 which set all time attendances for that venue. And in more recent times for his Peter Wright and the Revival Dinner Show: Legends – An Evening of Timeless Cool which played South-East Queensland in the mid to late nineties.
Peter will be supported at Rockstock 09 by Elephant Rock, which includes Danny Withington and Chris Hartley, who are both former members of The Clan, the backing band which supported Peter in those late 70’s Crown Cabaret performances.
